Context
This project was the first big project for the first year in Game Design. It was also my first board game. We worked on it for only 3 months. We had other concepts for games before but we were not satisfied, and after testing the previous idea for a game, we decided to discard it all and start from scratch with a strong intention which we didn’t have before. So we had to deliver a game in a shorter period of time.
Development
The initial idea was to create a combinatorial system where players would compete to overcome one another. We came up with the idea of creating sentences through the alignment of cards, the sentences would have a different effect depending on the combinations made.
The sentences need a target and an action to trigger the effect.
To trigger effects the players need to move their pawn through the sentences on the board.
We tried to create interesting choices with various targets and effects. We choose those in order to have powerful combinations depending on the player situation.
Also, we wanted to encourage the player to create complex combinations so we added “And” connectors on the board which allow him to trigger several effects in one turn.
On this project, I also wrote the rules. So I made sure it was clear and concise

Conclusion
With this project, I learn how to keep simple mechanics while also creating interesting and compelling situations. Also, as my first project in a group, I discovered an aspect of game design that is really important to me now: Sharing game design ideas during discussions. Listening to others opinions, ideas and arguments while explaining mine, then finding the intentions behind them in order to choose the right one or mixing the best ideas. So this project shaped how I approach game design discussion to make them more enjoyable and productive.
